Where to watch the Rugby World Cup in HK

admin

While there are plenty of options for watching sporting events on a screen these days, nothing beats the atmosphere of a sports bar for the big game. Happily, Hong Kong has its fair share of great spots where you can meet likeminded fans of rugby, football, motor racing, cricket and more. Throw on the team jersey, order a cold beer, and enjoy live broadcasts of some epic tournaments – including the upcoming Rugby World Cup from 20 September to 2 November in Japan. Here’s our roundup of top Hong Kong sports bars.

McSorley’s Ale House
McSorley’s is a truly fun destination – well-known for its menu, spacious interiors, and of course, its sports coverage. You can enjoy multi-screen viewing and pub food and drinks before, during and after the matches. The Facebook page is regularly updated with screening info, plus menu specials and more.

Delaney’s
Opened in August 1994, Delaney’s was the first Irish pub in Hong Kong serving the city’s first draught Guinness. There are now a number of branches, including in TST, Wan Chai (formerly The Canny Man) and in The Arcade in Cyberport. What you see is what you get here – expect loud men shouting at screens and good old-fashioned Irish charm! Most major sporting events are shown, including the upcoming RWC, along with British, European and American sports.

Champs Bar at Charterhouse Hotel Wan Chai
Champs is renowned as a go-to for watching sports, with different live broadcasts of popular events along with cable news. There’s plenty of space, 10 or more screens, and a huge selection of beers providing the perfect scene, whether you’re planning a visit for the rugby, soccer or more. Scousers will be especially happy here, as it’s a Liverpool FC supporters’ group bar.

The Globe
The Globe boasts lots of space, lots of beer (including plenty of great craft options) and lots of cheering. It’s a top place to start if you want to continue the night in Central – and the sort of place you can go alone and end up with a new group of friends within the hour.

45-53 Graham Street, Central
Forbes 36
Forbes 36 promotes itself as a ‘premier’ sports bar and shows several live sporting events on its large TV screens, from Premier League matches to the Ashes. The upcoming Rugby World Cup will feature too, of course. With a popular Western food menu and large selection of draught beers, this is one of K-Town’s best spots for sport-related fun.

White Stag
An old favourite in the heart of the city, White Stag has five screens showing sport of every variety. There are also popular quiz nights on Sundays and Mondays. You’ll know when something good is on, as the punters spill out onto the street when it’s busy.

54-62 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai

Trafalgar
Five floors up from the White Stag on Lockhart Road is Trafalgar. There’s a similar friendly feel here, with plenty of pub grub and British ale on the menu, and a keen interest in international sport. Premier League, AFL, rugby and cricket are regularly televised on eight inside screens and two projections screens in the outside balcony area.
