Day 10 - Travelogue Osaka - Seeing Osaka Castle and Dotonbori
Back to Day 9 - First Visit to Nara for Deer, Pikachu Donut, Daibutsu Temple, Kasuga-Taisha, Kohfukuji Temple I was ready to head to Osaka today. You could spend a week in Kyoto with all the temples and shrines, but I wanted to see a new city in Japan. Temple near the hotel. There are quite a few local shrines and temples. It's a Pokestop too. I was up early and had an early breakfast at a chain restaurant, Taishoku Yayoi. I have to say that ordering food has become much easier in casual / chain eateries in the 15 years...
Government still investigating why threats against Chong not passed up to cabinet
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says the government is still investigating why warnings that a Conservative MP was being threatened by the Chinese government never made it to the desk of any cabinet minister. Mendicino says Canada’s priority is holding China accountable for any threatening or harassing behaviour to Michael Chong and his family in Hong Kong and discussions about whether to expel diplomats from China are ongoing. The diplomat Chong was told oversaw an effort to target him and his family continues to work as a consular official for China in Toronto. But Mendicino says it’s also important to...
Senator says RCMP must release evidence of alleged Chinese police stations in Canada
A Canadian senator is defending two Montreal-area Chinese community organizations that have been accused by the RCMP of hosting secret Chinese government police stations. Woo, an Independent senator representing British Columbia, called for fairness, due process and the rule of law. He said the two community groups — which he said provide assistance to Quebec’s Chinese community — have been found guilty of...

Through those near-200 years, elephants, bears, gorillas and pandas are among the thousands of species to have lived here, interspersed with royal visits, animal escapes and a tragic fire. Animal welfare regulations and ethics have massively evolved over this time (and rightly so) leading to habitats being rebuilt, and some species being removed from London altogether. Here's a brief history of London Zoo. 1826: The Zoological Society of London,...
Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander population by the numbers
From across the Pacific The U.S. Asian population is diverse. A record 22 million Asian Americans trace their roots to more than 20 countries in East and Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent, each with unique histories, cultures, languages and other characteristics. Why is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Month in May? In 1977, the U.S. Congress chose the first 10 days of May to commemorate the history and contributions of Asian American communities here in the U.S. The week’s observance became a month, the very month in which the first Japanese immigrants came to the U.S. in 1843....
